What are hreflang tags?
Hreflang tags tell search engines which language and regional version of a page to show to users. They prevent duplicate content issues and ensure the right audience sees the right version of your content.
Best practices
- Every page referenced in hreflang tags must link back to all other versions (bidirectional).
- Always include an
x-defaulttag pointing to your fallback page. - Use full URLs (including https://) in hreflang tags.
- Place hreflang tags in the
<head>of each page, or in your XML sitemap. - Use ISO 639-1 language codes (e.g., "en") and optionally ISO 3166-1 Alpha-2 country codes (e.g., "en-us").
